Stay Alert: Scams Impersonating Government Agencies

CHEYENNE, Wyo. – April 15, 2026 – Scammers often pose as trusted government agencies to gain your confidence and request personal information or payment. Recently, agencies in Wyoming—including the Wyoming State Archives—have reported an increase in such recent fraudulent messages.

These messages may appear official and can be convincing, often referencing access to important records such as birth certificates, marriage records, or other legal documents.

Here are a few things to watch for:

The Wyoming State Archives will not contact individuals unexpectedly to request personal documents or sensitive information.

If you receive a suspicious message, do not respond or click any links. Instead, contact the Wyoming State Archives directly using verified contact information from our official website.
